Uses : The leaves are sweet, astringent, cooling, emmenagogue, opthalmic, vulnerary, constipating and febrifuge. Bamboo leaves contain the highest protein levels, stems have less. The bamboo resin (Tabasheer, Banshalochan) is the siliceous secretion found in the internodes of the stems of various species of Bamboo. It occurs in fragments of masses, and is translucent or transparent and bluish white color. It is astringent, acrid, sweet, cooling, expectorant, constipating, cardiotonic, haemostatic, aphrodisiac, and diuretic.

Uses : According to Ayurveda Boerhavia is bitter, anaemia, cooling, heart diseases, astringent to bowels, useful in biliousness, blood impurities, leucorrhoea, asthma, alternatives etc. The leaves are useful in dyspepsia, tumours, abdominal pains, and spleen enlargement. According to Unani system of medicine, the leaves are appetizers, alexiteric, useful in opthalmia and in joint pains. Seeds are tonic expectorant, carminative, useful in lumbago, scabies. The seeds are considered as promising blood purifier.
